What is GFC Therapy?

GFC (Growth Factor Concentrate) is a hair treatment made from your own blood. A small blood sample is processed to collect the growth factors from your platelets, and this concentrate is injected into the thinning areas of the scalp. These growth factors support weak hair follicles, help reduce hair fall and can improve hair thickness over a course of sessions.

Who is GFC suitable for?

GFC vs PRP: what's the difference?

Both GFC and PRP use your own blood. In PRP, the platelet-rich plasma itself is injected. In GFC, the growth factors are extracted from the platelets first, so the injected solution is more concentrated and has fewer cells. Many patients find GFC sessions more comfortable. Dr. Khan will recommend PRP, GFC or medicines depending on the cause and stage of your hair loss.

Diagnosis comes first

Hair fall has many causes, including genetics, thyroid problems, low iron or vitamin levels, hormonal changes, stress and scalp conditions. GFC works best when the underlying cause is also treated. At Truederm, every patient is examined first, and blood tests are advised only when needed.

FAQs

Common Questions

How many GFC sessions are needed?

Most patients need a course of 3 to 6 sessions spaced about 4โ€“6 weeks apart. Dr. Khan will advise the number of sessions after examining your scalp.

When will I see results from GFC?

Reduced hair fall is often noticed after the first two sessions. Improvement in thickness usually takes 3 to 6 months, because hair grows slowly.

Is GFC treatment painful?

Discomfort is usually mild. Numbing cream is used, and fine needles keep the injections tolerable for most people.

Is GFC safe?

GFC is made from your own blood, so the risk of allergy is very low. Temporary redness or tenderness of the scalp for a day is common.
