Botox is one of the most requested, and most misunderstood, treatments walking through our door at Truederm. Patients often arrive with either exaggerated fear ("I'll look frozen") or exaggerated hope ("one shot and I'll look ten years younger forever"). Neither is accurate. Here is what actually happens.
What Botox Actually Does
Botox is a purified protein that temporarily relaxes the specific facial muscles responsible for expression lines - forehead lines, frown lines between the brows, and crow's feet around the eyes. It does not fill anything, dissolve fat, or change your bone structure; it simply reduces the repeated muscle movement that deepens lines over time.
Myth: "It Will Freeze My Face"
A frozen, expressionless look almost always comes from over-dosing or poor technique, not from Botox itself. At the right dose, calibrated to your muscle strength and the look you want, you keep full ability to smile, frown and look surprised, just with softer lines.
Myth: "Results Are Instant"
Botox does not work the moment it is injected. Most patients start noticing softened lines around day 3 to 5, with full effect visible by day 10 to 14. Results typically last 3 to 4 months, after which muscle activity gradually returns and a touch-up session is needed.
Myth: "It's Only for Older Patients"
A growing number of patients in their late twenties and early thirties opt for low-dose, preventive Botox to slow the deepening of lines before they become permanent, rather than treating already-set wrinkles later.
What to Expect at Your Truederm Consultation
Dr. Iftekhar Khan assesses your muscle movement pattern, skin thickness and the specific lines bothering you before recommending a dose - there is no fixed "one size fits all" number of units. The session itself takes about 15 to 20 minutes with minimal discomfort, and you can resume normal activity the same day.
